August 16, 20:00 - Concert "The ancient organ of the Anglican Cathedral. Ave Maria"

St. Andrew's Anglican Church

Moscow, Voznesensky Lane, 8/5 from 3

Over the centuries-old history, a huge number of musical works have been created on the text of this prayer, the most popular of which, perhaps, is "Ave Maria" (the original title is "The Third Song of Ellen") by Franz Schubert. Initially, the composer used only the first two words of the prayer, the rest of the text was added after Schubert's death.

The work of D. Caccini became famous thanks to the treatment of the Soviet composer V. Vavilov. For the first time it was recorded on a gramophone record in our Anglican Cathedral, when the Melody recording studio was still located here.

Mozart, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Piazzolla, Liszt and other famous composers have compositions of the same name. Ave Maria by S. Gounod is also very recognizable, due to the fact that it is written to the tune of a popular prelude by J.S. Bach.

In this concert, the works on the text of the prayer will be performed by a soprano accompanied by an organ.

Performed by laureates of international competitions:

  • Ekaterina Monisova (soprano)
  • Anna Yurkova (organ)
